I flip unturned stone;
Soil cleaves to jagged bottom.
Did I disturb it,
Wake the stone from peaceful sleep?
Or rouse it for a new day?

On this ‘Whatever I Want’ Thursday, I’m responding to Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday #117 – poet’s choice of prompt words. As I wonder whether or not I’m pleased that another year has passed, I think about what things I want to keep and what I want to change about myself, my life, and my circumstances.
As a PSA to anyone paying attention, I’m getting my wisdom teeth out today (maybe even as you read this…). It’s garbage because my wisdom teeth are fully formed and I’m too old for this mess. While I hope to keep posting over the next few days/week, I might be really high or in pain and incapable.
Love this one. I wrote my first ‘tanka’ this morning. I still have lots to learn, Teacher.
Sensei since this is japanese i guess
Hai!
Thank you for imparting what wisdom remained before then, in verse. 😉
Woohoo yeah i can remember last night being like, ‘if i die, this hopefully won’t be too sucky a thing as my last writings!’
I’m fairly certain my last words won’t be so poetic.
Lol apparently i woke up extremely paranoid and called my nurses commie bastards
My husband tried to escape from the car on the interstate after his. That’s some strong stuff they use.
Lol i don’t remember most of the ride home! Guess i’m already doing a little better
Your comment about Commies also made me think that the gauze might be for more than stopping blood-flow….
Haha what might it be?
Well.. I remember felling like I had to talk to everyone yet the gauze was impeding vocal clarity.
Definitely impending
Good luck with the teeth. I had my last wisdom tooth removed last year. It’s never a fun experience. The dentist took a long while to pull it out. Still it wasn’t as bad as having my two lower ones removed. That was painful for a very long time. Not sure what I’m trying to say here… Hopefully the procedure will be quick and not too painful. Just take of yourself for the next couple of days 🙂
Got pain meds now – did 4 at once, pretty bad right now
Ouch! Take it easy for a few days is my advice.
Thanks – not sure I have much choice right now, haha
Yikes on the wisdom teeth. I’ll link to your post. Don’t worry. Hope you have a speedy recovery and are soon on the mend. ❤
I hope to be ok soon but it hurts now and my mouth is full of cotton so i have to communicate by text message haha. Thought might as well do blog since i can’t talk.
LOL! I know what you mean! Get well. I hope they gave you some good pain pills. 😀
They did.
I’ve had my wisdom teeth out, my sympathy goes to you.
Fear not, you’ll be feeling great in a few days.
Lots of hugs.
Oh good! I cant wait, haha
Really liked this poem! I was avoiding having my wisdom teeth pulled until my dentist told me that my entire set of teeth will be shifted if I don’t. I have a small mouth. There was no room for wisdom there! Here’s to a quick recovery for you! 🙂
Thanks – one of my wisdom teeth was causing problems for other back teeth, so out they all came!
Similar situation. Hope you get over the initial soreness!
Thanks! It’s already lessening, so thanks for the well-wishes! They’re working!
I’m not always great at reading between the lines, but I find I am able to do so with your poetry. You got through to the oblivious. That’s good poetry!
Or perhaps I am too blunt – I’m still learning how to poem, really!
No, not at all, I do have to use my brain but I don’t have to overly stress it too much, and if I have to severely stress my brain to discover the meaning, it’s not poetry… it’s just stress. And stress is no fun.
True!
