Independence

musket

There’s nothing wrong here.
Ignore all that blood –
With a mere grimace
I can bear through it.
Don’t open my coat,
Don’t look too closely.
I can operate
And get the bullet

Myself.Β

This was written for Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompt #114, Grimace. The little poem was inspired by a drunk history I saw when just letting youtube play whatever it wanted. It was about a lady named Deborah Sampson who pretended to be a dude, fought as an elite soldier, got shot, and chose to operate on herself rather than get caught. So, a week late for the 4th of July stuff, but good nonetheless! AMERICA

Okay, I’ll check out the link.

Please, do not think I am trying to be rude at all – but I feel compelled to say that your word choice was quite strong. I have no problem with emphasis, but word choice such as that has always bothered me. It may not bother you, but it does make me very uncomfortable. Just letting you know. I hope I did not come across as crass or insensitive saying that.

        Thank you!

        God bless,
        Brianna

Many wives joined their husbands. But stayed in what was called a civilian camp that was left out of the fighting. I actually read or saw of a woman who dressed as a Dude but because of injury was caught when treated and sent home!
