Down she treads
In ivory chemise,
Steps muted.
The spirit puts
Her pale lips
To the sleeping babe’s forehead,
Wishes gentle sleep.
This was written for Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday #137, Kind and Shift (synonyms are in bold). I took what I believe may be a weird route for shift: in the 1800’s, a shift was a sort of petticoat. So I made the petticoat/shift/chemise the star of this shadorma, the wearer of said article a kind spirit that wishes well those that live in her home.
Or does she?
The picture, as far as I can tell, is in the public domain because of its age.
I like this. It’s gentle.
Thank you!
I love this poem and the accompanying picture.
Thank you!
This poem matches the tone of the photo perfectly! Such a soothing piece.
Thank you!
I’ve read stories where the ‘spirit’ of the home or shop has been quite helpful – and that makes me smile.
I like the idea of good ghosts – there’s definitely not enough of them on those Ghost Hunter TV shows!
Now that is clever! Well done. I like your choice of words. And, the photo is fabulous too! Very spooky! 😀
Thank you! This reminds me I need to send an email for the roundup, haha!
Yes, please! 😀
It’s haunting and delicate. Wonderful!
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Love this. 🙂
Thanks!
I like the feeling of mystery in both photo and words. (K)
Thank you!
A lovely Shadorma. The words are beautiful with a tinge of eeriness just like the photo. Well done, my friend! Happy Friday and a great weekend! 😀
Thank you! Have a great weekend!
Thanks! 🙂 xo
